Recommendations regarding Mourning Period for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej
Thailand is now in an official period of mourning following the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
In this regard, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like all visitors to Thailand to continue with their travel plans as normal. Furthermore, kindly be advised of the following:
• Many Thai people will be wearing black or white clothing as a sign of mourning. This is not required of visitors but if possible, they should wear sombre and respectful clothing when in public.
• Visitors should refrain from conducting any inappropriate or disrespectful behaviour.
• Tourist attractions will be open as usual with the exception of Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) and the Grand Palace, as they will be the venue of the Royal Funeral Rites.
• The Government has asked for the cooperation from the entertainment venues; such as, bars and nightclubs to consider the opening of their business operations during this time. The decision will be made by the individual owners.
• Most of the traditional and cultural events will be taking place as usual, although the celebrations may be changed for appropriateness as a mark of respect, or the events may be dedicated to the memory of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
• All transport, banks, hospitals and other public services will be operating as usual.
• The related authorities have stepped up safety and security measures for all Thais and visitors to facilitate their travelling around the country.

| Näitä ohjeita on jaettu vähän joka paikassa. Naapurinkin ohjeiden mukaisesti olemme mekin pukeutuneet toistaiseksi mustiin kaupungille mennessä. Suomiseuran karaoke tältä illalta peruutettiin samoin suomalainen jumalanpalvelus sunnintailta. Hash House Harriersissa pukukaavana on yksivärinen t paita eikä juoksun jälkeen pidetä circleä eli juoda olutta ja lauleta ym. Elämä jatkuu normaalina, kuten PM toivoi, mutta baarit ovat usein kiinni eikä musiikkia soiteta eli elellään hillitysti. |

Tässä The Nationin juttua kun myös jotkut suurlähetystöt luonnollisesti kehottavat kunnioittamaan tilannetta. Mustia ja tummia paitoja minäkin olen käyttänyt.
Jos näin voisi sanoa, niin paita- ja lippukauppiaat hankkivat hyvin tässä tilanteessa. Samoin kaupat jotka myyvät kuninkaan kuvia, erilaisia buddhalaisuuteen ja onneen liittyviä tuotteita myyvät sekä jotkut muutkin. Siitä oli juttua ja kuvaa myös paikallisessa tv:ssa. Meidän kylällekin ilmestyi tuohon keskustaan koju, joka myy mustia paitoja. Tietenkin tuo mainitsemani on tässä tilanteessa näin ja en tarkoita mitään negatiivisuutta tässä kohtaa.

Embassies urge respect for Thai sensitivities

SOME foreign countries have advised their tourists and expatriates in Thailand to exercise caution during the current period when Thais across the country mourn the passing of His Majesty the King.
The British Foreign Office issued a statement advising British tourists in Thailand to ensure proper behaviour during their stay in the Kingdom.
The statement said: "You should respect the feelings and sensitivities of the Thai people at this time. Access to entertainment, including restaurants, bars and shopping areas may be restricted and you should behave respectfully when in public areas.
"If possible, wear sober clothing when in public; check local media regularly and follow the advice of local authorities."
Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Tourism also urged its citizens in Thailand to obey laws and customs during this period.
The European Association for Business and Commerce informed it members it had decided to postpone a speech dinner with the governor of the Bank of Thailand, originally planned for Monday at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit.
It will inform members at the earliest when the function will be held.
Canada also urged its citizens to show respect for the grief of Thais during this time and refrain from any behaviour that may be interpreted as festive, disrespectful or disorderly.
It said government offices, banks and other institutions may be closed or offer limited services in coming days.
Bangkok is expected to see an influx of people from the provinces to attend ceremonies during the mourning period, which could cause traffic disruptions.
Tourists were advised to monitor local media for more information about |possible traffic disruptions and road |closures.
During the mourning period, organisers of entertainment and festive events have been urged to scale things down.
The Thai Hotels Association said many events and meetings planned at hotels would have to be postponed or rescheduled.
A representative of Centara Hotels and Resort said hotels in the group could reset events or celebrations upon client request.
The management and associates of Hyatt Regency Hua Hin and The Barai said it had received some requests to postpone bookings from guests from the Bangkok market as well as a few cancellations from government and embassy sectors.
The hotel will waive penalties for guests and clients who need to change their |travel plans, as they understand their |concerns and feelings during this |mourning period.

15 October 2016 at 19.30 hrs.
As Thailand is currently in a period of national mourning after the passing of the beloved monarch His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, many thousands of mourners have gathered around the Grand Palace in Bangkok to be present for the royal religious rites and ceremonies taking place and to pay their respects to the father of the nation. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to ask that members of the public stay updated via media announcements and notices from the Bureau of the Royal Household as well as the Royal Thai Government to ensure accurate information. We also request that the solemnity of these rites are observed and the visitors – local and international – wear respectful attire.
In the period of national mourning, some festivals and activities in the kingdom have been cancelled or postponed. Other events will go ahead as planned but may be toned down as a mark of respect. Please see the list of events that are postponed or cancelled in the following page.
The TAT would like to recommend that any visitors with travel or tourism plans reconfirm with agents and check local media regularly as well as follow the advice of the local authorities for announcements and updates. They should also be aware that in some areas transportation could be affected. We also ask tourists and visitors for their understanding and patience should they experience delays or some routes may be closed to traffic.

Myös some eli monet esimerkiksi Facebook-käyttäjät Thaimaassa ovat vaihtaneet vaikkapa profiilikuvansa mustavalkoiseksi ja myös sen seinäkuvan vai mikä se on. Minulla on kymmeniä thaimaalaisia fb-kavereita, niin ne mitkä olen tässä mielessä tsekannut, niin kaikilla näin. Tämäkään ei ole mikään pakko. Thaimaalaiset haluavat täysin vapaaehtoisesti kunnioittaa rakastamaansa kuningasta monilla eri tavoin. Kaikki jotka ovat seuranneet asiaa tietävät kuinka suuri suru kansalla on. Ja hyvin paljon tätä asiaa seurataan ulkomaisessa mediassa ja selvä kunnioitus asian suhteen näkyy sielläkin pääasiassa.
Itse toimin fb:ssa samoin, koska Thaimaassa asuvana ja useiden thaimaalaisten fb-kaverieni surua ja tietenkin kuningasta kunnioittaen halusin tehdä samoin.

Tässä juttu Hesarista. Olen samaa mieltä asiasta kuin jutussa tai otsikossa kirjoitetaan. Oletin tai odotin itsekin sanoisinko tiukempaa touhua tai jotain sellaista, että muutamaksi päiväksi lähes kaikki menee kiinni. Mielestäni tänne voi ihan hyvin tulla lomailemaan eikä nuo lähinnä suositukset sotke oikeastaan mitenkään lomailua. Ei tarvitse vaihtaa lomakohdetta. Kannattaa mielestäni tietysti huomioida nuo suositukset ja kunnioittaa niitä.
Ei pidä käsittää, että minä tässä jakelen ohjeita. Tää on pelkkää informaatiota ja joitakin omia mielipiteitäni.

Kuninkaan kuoleman jälkeiset huvittelurajoitukset ovat lievempiä kuin ennakoitiin. Juhani Javanaisella on Pattayan-talossaan vieraita Harjavallasta. He arvelivat ensin kuolinuutisen kuultuaan, että olisi syytä vaihtaa lomakohdetta.

New Royal Anthem film was released Monday morning on TV pool.
The film was recorded during a historic mass singing event on October 22 when hundreds of thousands people gathered to sing the Royal Anthem in tribute to HM the late King at Sanam Luang. Film and music masters MC Chatrichalerm Yukol and Somtow Sucharitkul collaborated to produce the new film.
The film will be shown in movie theatres and on television from now on.

Joo, oli tosi rauhallista.
Kyselin asiaa myös naapuri temppelistä. Sielläkin oli hyvin paljon vähemmän väkeä, kuin normaalisti.

BANGKOK — Construction of the crematorium complex for His Majesty Rama IX is about a third of the way complete, the state arts department announced Friday.
According to the progress update, work is over halfway complete on the underlying structure for the main funerary pyre, which will stand nearly 60 meters tall when the late king is cremated there later this year.
“Construction of the royal crematorium has progressed over 30 percent,” Deputy Prime Minister Thanasak Patimaprakorn said Thursday. “It will be complete by September as scheduled for sure, and can even be sped up by the committee if Rama X so desires.”
King Bhumibol died Oct. 13 at 88 and was later succeeded by his son.
The main pyre’s central columns and metal framework has been laid down at the appointed location in the Sanam Luang in Bangkok’s old quarter.
Artists are at work on cement, plaster and fiberglass statues of deities and creatures from the Hindu cosmology to decorate the crematorium.
When complete, the crematorium will stage the grandest royal funeral in decades. Funds of 500 million baht were budgeted for its construction. The cremation is expected to take place in October, a year after King Bhumibol’s death, though an exact date has yet to be announced.

Ehkä menen tulevalla viikolla niin lähelle Grand Palacea kuin pääsen katsomaan tilannetta mikä se nyt on. Riippuu miten aika riittää. Vaimo sanoi, että pitäisi jotenkin ensin buukata joku tiketti jos haluaisi osallistua jäähyväisten jättöön nyt. Ei muuta tietoa asiasta sen suhteen.

Songkran juhlintaa halutaan/yritetään rauhoittaa Bangkokissa kuninkaan kuoleman vuoksi. Mielestäni hyvä asia ja toivottavasti myös koskisi koko maata kuten jossain määrin kaiketi tulee koskemaan.

SONGKRAN celebrations are supposed to be more sober and tidier this year, with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) taking measures to tone down festivities a little as the country continues to mourn the late HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Although traditional water wars will be allowed along Silom Road, with traffic banned from noon to 10pm during the holiday, BMA governor Pol General Aswin Kwanmuang yesterday warned that too-loud music and dancing on the back of pickup trucks were prohibited.
The city will campaign for Songkran revellers to refrain from using high-pressure water guns, while urging people to save water.
Drinking alcohol, wearing too-revealing clothing and using powder to smear passers-by will also be discouraged, he said, following a meeting of city executives at City Hall in preparation for Songkran.
Aswin said the city, which has designated “Safety Songkran Zones” in all 50 districts including the famous Khao San Road site and Silom Road, would seek cooperation from event organisers and the public to refrain from certain activities.
He urged people to throw and spray water only within designated zones so as to not disturb others who did not want to join in the “water war”, including those coming to the Grand Palace to pay respects in front of the late HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Royal Urn.
Aswin’s deputy Amnuay Nimmano and chief adviser Wanlop Suwandee would inspect various Songkran zones during the celebration period to ensure order, he said
Amnuay said he would today preside over a meeting at the Phra Nakhon District Office to bring all district offices hosting Songkran celebrations together to discuss their plans and related safety measures.
As the Songkran holiday period is notorious for increases in road accidents and casualties, the district offices will also be instructed to carry out alcohol and speed checks on transport van drivers.
The BMA will host the main traditional celebration at Khon Muang Plaza in front of City Hall from April 12 to 15.
The sacred Phra Buddha Sihing image will be brought from the National Museum on April 12 in a procession through the streets of old Bangkok to the plaza’s temporary shrine, so people can worship for good luck, before it is brought back to the museum on April 15.

BANGKOK — His Majesty the Late King’s cremation on Oct. 26 will be marked with a national public holiday, the interim cabinet announced Tuesday.
The funeral rites will occur Oct. 25 through Oct. 29. On the second day, King Bhumibol’s remains will be cremated. The cabinet hasn’t confirmed whether the other four days will also be holidays.
The ritual is set to draw millions of mourners to the capital city to express their grief to the only king many knew all their lives. It will be the first funeral for a monarch in over 80 years.
The date of cremation of King Bhumibol, who died at 88 in October, was submitted by the government to his heir and current monarch, King Vajiralongkorn, earlier this month. The proposal has been approved by the king, according to a palace document seen by the media.
A massive funeral pyre is being built at this very moment on Sanam Luang, the site of royal cremations for the past 200 years. Once it is completed, the multi-million baht pyre, which will feature intricate Thai art and craftsmanship, will cover a length of 80 meters on the northern side of Sanam Luang.
Two weeks ago, the cabinet approved two new holidays: July 28, King Vajiralongkorn’s birthday; and Oct. 13, which will mark the first anniversary of his father’s death.

Onhan noita juhlapäiviä suomalaisessakin kalenterissa laskujeni mukaan oliko 15. Silloin usein lähes kaikki jumissa. Thaimaassa ei ole välttämättä kaikki jumissa vaikka vapaapäivä. Ei edes kaikki pankit. Siihen nähden ei valittamista ainakaan täällä landella.

BANGKOK — Dec. 5 will remain a national holiday after Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on Tuesday countersigned a royal order from King Rama X.
The day will mark three important occasions: National Day, Father’s Day and the birthday of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The statement said the date would be used to pay gratitude to the late king’s dedication to the country and its people. |

Suomessa noin 25 prosenttia työllisistä tekee vuorotyötä tai noudattaa hyvin epäsäännöllisiä työaikoja. Epäsäännöllistä työaikaa tekevien suhteellinen osuus todennäköisesti lisääntyy työvoiman absoluuttisen lukumäärän pienentyessä.

BANGKOK — The government has asked television broadcasters to desaturate their colors and air programming about His Majesty Rama IX for the 20 days leading up to his cremation.
Cabinet member Ormsin Chivapruck said Tuesday that for the duration of funerary rites, all channels should cooperate by toning down their programming: both in color and content.
“From 1 to 20 October, TV stations must adjust the color tones and content of their aired shows,” Ormsin said. “From 21 to 24 October, special programming to honor His Majesty Rama IX will be shown. Funerary rituals will be shown on 25 October, then from 26 to 29 October, the cremation ceremony of King Bhumibol Adulyadej will be aired,”
Ormsin said that the media was currently cooperating. He also requested that on Oct. 26, the first day of the cremation, that large screens at traffic intersections broadcast the ritual.
King Bhumibol died Oct. 13, 2016, at 88.
For a month after his death, TV programming aired with less color, and many websites switched to black and white. Even today, most sites on the Thai web have retained black-and-white toggle options or include a mourning ribbon on the page.
Websites have not been asked to go dark for the funeral, however.
Upon Rama IX’s death, the government asked for 30 days without entertainment and declared a year of mourning during which officials would be required to wear black. Many private citizens have chosen to wear black as well along with ribbons or pins with the Thai numeral nine to show their grief. Lines continue to form outside the Grand Palace for people to pay their respects to the late king.

BANGKOK — Sept. 30 is the last day to pay respect to His Majesty late King Bhumibol as the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha will close one month for the royal funeral.
The closure will run Oct. 1 through Oct. 30 for preparations and the ceremony to lay King Bhumibol to rest, according to the palace. The royal cremation will take place Oct. 26.
The two venues will reopen to the public on Oct. 30.
