| Lainaus: | Several active and retired police and military officers who sit in the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) have net assets worth more than 100 million baht each, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) disclosed yesterday.
The assets-and-liabilities disclosure involves 195 NLA members who took office on Aug 8.
Assistant national police chief Jakthip Chaijinda has 97.4 million baht in liabilities, the couple's net worth is 962 million baht. His declared assets include 45 firearms and 47 paintings.
Pol Lt Gen Jakthip is the third richest member of the NLA, following Thai Chamber of Commerce chairman Issara Wongkusolkij and his wife, whose net worth is 5.2 billion baht, and Pilaipan Sombatsiri, CEO of Nai Lert Park Hotel Co, whose net worth is 1.3 billion baht. National police chief Somyot Pumpanmuang has 246.4 million baht in assets and his wife has 128.2 million baht in assets.
With the couple's liabilities of 18.8 million baht, their net worth is 355.8 million baht. His assets include a number of watches, rings and firearms as well as 12 famous Buddha amulets worth 25 million.
Deputy national police chief Ek Angsananon has 55 million baht in assets and his wife has 92.2 million baht in assets. Having no liabilities, the couple have a net worth of 147.2 million baht. |

At least 23 Prawet police officers are facing a probe in connection with a bribery scandal and three have been transferred to inactive posts following raids on entertainment venues on Srinakarin Road last week.
Prawet superintendent Pol Col Somkuan Puangsap, Pol Lt Col Phadet Phubupphakarnjana, sub-superintendent of the crime suppression division, and Pol Maj Boworn Pengsuk, sub-superintendent of the crime investigation division were moved to assistance work at the Metropolitan Police Bureau's Operation Centre for 30 days. The transfer order was signed by Pol Maj Gen Srivara Rangsipramanakul, acting commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Monday and took effect immediately.
On Saturday, a combined team of 50 police and military officers launched raids on Khum Phra Ram massage parlour on Srinakarin Soi 49 in Bangkok's Prawet district and the nearby Rider Resort, which had opened as entertainment and restaurant venues, after they were tipped off the venues had been operating without and offered sex services.
During the raids, police found illegal items including methamphetamine pills and marijuana. A list of police officers to be paid off was also found during raids at the parlour, military officers said. The list shows monthly bribes to be paid to officers from the ranks of senior sergeant major to police inspector. It was typed and printed on the venue's letterhead as if it it were a formal document. |
